SRNA REVIEW OF DAILY NEWS, April 28, 1996

Srpska Republica News Agency (SRNA) Directory

From: Mirjana Petrovic <almirja@cotton.vislab.olemiss.edu>

DOBOJ - Two buses with Muslim civilians from Tesanj crossed the border of Republika Srpska (RS) at Usce, near Doboj, at 12:30 hrs, escorted by the Serb police and International Police (IPTF) went to the local graveyard. Serb civilian officials and police, agreed on April 25 with Muslim representatives, IFOR and IPTF to allow the Tesanj Muslims to, in a part of their religious holi days, today visit graveyards, as agreed to the Dayton agreement.

BANJALUKA - The Muslims prevented the announced visit of the Serbs from Petrovac to Orthodox graveyards in Prijedor Municipal ity, conditioning their entry by a permission for Muslim entry to Prijedor and Novi Grad. The visit was agreed to earlier with IFOR and local Muslim authorities in Petrovac. After preventing the Petrovac Serbs from entering, the Muslims razed tombstones on the Sljivar and Tresnjice Orthodox graveyards, and brought them to the former lines of confrontation so as to, as they said, the Serbs could light candles for their dead.

NOVI GRAD - The chief of the Public Security Centre in Novi Grad, Petar Vuruna, stated that the Muslims did not attempt to reach the RS territory yesterday, but warned at some indications that they will try to do so today or tomorrow. In his statement for SRNA, Vuruna explained that the Muslims neither announced nor agreed to any transfer to the RS territory in the Novi Grad area.

HAMBURG - The forcible Muslim entries into serb territory because alleged visit to graveyards could instigate serious con flicts with unforeseeable consequences, writes "Hamburger Abend blat". Having learnt from their previous experiences with the Muslims, IFOR soldiers are in alert.

GRADISKA - IFOR commander, admiral Leighton Smith opposed to demands for the arrests of persons suspicious for war crimes in former Bosnia, accusing some western diplomats of trying to drag NATO troops in former B-H into a mission "which cannot be justi fied". In his statement for today's issue of the New York Times, admiral Smith said that his soldiers will not go for men hunting of persons suspicious for war crimes, and reminded that all except the separation of the warring parties, which is the pri mary goal set by the military part of the Dayton agreement, would lead NATO troops into a conflict.

LONDON - The White House and the US president Bill Clinton's policy towards the RS was so "dirty" by the end of 1994 that even the CIA was concerned over its purposefulness and its consistence with the US Law. Clinton's favourite assistant, Richard Hol brooke, who was very welcomed guest of Serbia's president Slobo dan Milosevic, did all possible to trick the international embar go on arms shipments to Bosnian Muslims, says intelligence sources in London.

SYDNEY - In recent poll carried out by the Australian press, almost one fourth of Australians answered that they would not like to have the Muslims for their neighbours. Unexpectedly high place of the Islam faithful on the list of undesirable neigh bours, next to homosexuals, was surprising in respect to a fact that Australia is held as the most tolerant country in the world.
