[01] RENEWAL OF TRUST AND COOPERATIONSerbian President Slobodan Milosevic received yesterday the American team for the Balkans, headed by Ass. Secretary of State John Cornbloom.During a lengthy conversation marked by a spirit of openness and understanding, the most recent issues affecting the stability in the region and the enhancement of Yugoslav-US relations and cooperation have been discussed. It has been remarked that in the past year, since the signing of the Dayton Document, major success has been achieved in its implementation, primarily because stable peace has been secured in Bosnia and Herzegovina and normal life has been brought back to both entitites. Joint efforts that have been made in this sense, as well as the overall activities for the comprehensive normalization of relations between the states and nations in the Balkan area, undoubtedly constitute a major contribution to the strengthening of peace and stability, as well to the creation of the necessary preconditions for the renewal of trust and cooperation on the grounds of equality and mutual interests. In this regard, the importance of enhancing economic cooperation among the Balkan states and peoples and their equitable involvement in the contemporary integration processes, has been stressed. During the talks it has also been pointed out that FR Yugoslavia is developing comprehensive relations and cooperation with the neighboring countries, as well as with numerous other countries throughout the world. (Politika, November 13, 1996) [02] CORNBLOOM: SUCCESSFUL DIALOGUE HAS BEEN ESTABLISHEDMr. John Cornbloom - US Assistant Secretary of State, stated yesterday after meeting with President Milosevic, that a very good operational dialogue has been established between the US and Serbia. In a brief statement for the press, Mr. Cornbloom told the reporters that the United States want peace in the region and see Yugoslavia "as an open, democratic and stable part of the Balkans and Europe." "Now that a difficult period in the history of Yugoslavia has passed, FRY and other parts of former Yugoslavia are heading for a harmonic situation, based on openness, democracy and rights for all", said the US mediator after a two and a half hour talk with the President of Serbia. Mr. Cornbloom also stressed that the meeting was a regular exchange of opinions with President Milosevic and that the agenda included a number of issues regarding the implementation of the Dayton Agreement. (Politika, November 13, 1996) [03] 7.000 HOUSES IN SERBIAN SARAJEVOFederal Deputy Premier - Mr. Nikola Sainovic is heading a high Yugoslav business delegation visiting Serbian Sarajevo.Yesterday he laid the cornerstone for the construction of seven thousand homes in this town. FR Yugoslavia is taking part in the project for the construction of Serbian Sarajevo and will allocate 107 million German marks for this purpose. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Momcilo Krajisnik - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Srpska Prime Minister - Mr. Gojko Klickovic and other Republic of Srpska officials and public figures. Addressing the present, Mr. Sainovic stressed that the years of war and sacrifices have passed, and that this day marks the turning of a page in history, marked by the reconstruction of the RS economy and the building of homes for the people of Serbian Sarajevo. (Politika Ekspres, November 13, 1996) [04] THEY SUFFERED EQUALLYIn accordance with the articles of the Erdut Agreement, an international monitoring committee has recently been formed - encompassing representatives of France, Germany, Russia, England, European Union and United Nations - to supervise the implementation of this peace agreement with particular attention to human rights. This was announced yesterday by Mr. Peter Galbraith - US Ambassador to Croatia - ant the ceremony for the anniversary of the signing of Erdut Agreement. "Serbs in Croatia should enjoy the same rights as the Croats, including the right to the own language, religion, and above all the right to return to their homes and have a secure life. Speaking on behalf of my country and as a friend of Croatia, I have to say that too little has been done to allow the return of the Serbs" said Mr. Galbraith and added that "reconciliation in the area requires the admission that Serbs and Croats suffered equally in this war." The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Thornvald Stoltenberg - the other international mediator involved in the signing of the Erdut Agreement, and by the UN Administrator Jacques Klein. The Serbian side was represented Region President Mr. Goran Hadzic, and the Premier of the Regional Government - Dr. Vojislav Stanimirovic. Croatia was represented by Mr. Ivica Vrkic, Head of the Croatian Government Bureau in Osijek. (Vecernje Novosti, November 13, 1996) [05] ITALY - THE FOREMOST FOREIGN TRADE PARTNERSerbian Prime Minister Mirko Marjanovic received yesterday Mr. Francesco Bascone - Italian Ambassador to Yugoslavia.Prime Minister Marjanovic stressed that the relations between the two countries are traditionally friendly and successful, which is best corroborated by the fact that this year Italy has been the foremost Yugoslav foreign trade partner. During the talks, it has been remarked with satisfaction that trade between Yugoslavia and Italy is constantly expanding, but also that it might be very soon incremented several times by intensifying the cooperation in agriculture, energy and wood processing. (TANJUG, November 13, 1996) [06] 11.1% INCREASE OF EXPORTS IN 10 MONTHS"The latest data on exports made by Yugoslav companies are quite satisfactory, although more was expected. In fact, in October goods worth 155 million dollars have been exported, representing a 17.7% increase compared to October 1995. IN the past ten months the overall Yugoslav exports amount to 1425 million dollars, representing a 11.1% increase compared to last year - said Mr. Milovan Zivkovic, Head of the Federal Statistics Institute. Most of the goods have been exported to Italy, the Russian Federation and Germany. (Borba, November 13, 1996) [07] PLANS FOR A BILLION DOLLARS TRADE VOLUMEThe Yugoslav business delegation headed by Dr. Mihailo Milojevic - President of the Yugoslav Chamber of Economy, started talks with the representatives of the Swedish Chamber of Foreign Trade, government officials and businessmen from Stockholm. The talks at the Swedish Chamber, attended by one of the most influential businessmen in Sweden - Chamber Chairman and former Cabinet Member Ulf Dinkelspiel - confirmed the existence of a major interest for production cooperation, industrial collaboration and sale of Yugoslav products on the Swedish market. In the past several month, large Swedish companies such as Ericsson, Volvo, Barun-Boveri-Asea and others, signed several major business agreements with Yugoslav companies, indicating that next year the trade volume between the two countries might reach a billion dollars, just as it was before the international sanctions against Yugoslavia. (Vecernje Novosti, November 13, 1996) [08] STATE PROPERTY AND JOINT INVESTMENTS EXISTED EVEN AFTER 1974The debate on the definition and distribution of state property of former Yugoslavia, marked the beginning of a new round of negotiations between the successor states of former Yugoslavia in Brussels yesterday. The talks involve delegations of FR Yugoslavia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, and they are coordinated by international mediator Sir Arthur Watts - Head of the Succession Group in the Council for the implementation of peace.Differing understanding of the essential problem of economic succession of the former common state, visible in the position of the Yugoslav team and that of the representatives of other states, came to the surface at the very opening of yesterday's debate. The thesis advanced by the Croatian delegation, namely that the 1971 Law and the subsequent 1974 Constitution practically divided the state property among the federal republics, has been denied and proved wrong in a documented way by the Yugoslav negotiators that offered numerous examples of existence of such property and joint investments even after the listed years. The fact that other delegations are insisting that the essence of state property should not be discussed - which has crucial bearing on the entire succession problem and its solution according to Yugoslav experts - but merely the concrete articles figuring on the inventory made previously will certainly obstruct the efforts of the international community to settle adequately the problem of Yugoslav economic succession - remarked Academician Kosta Mijajlovic - member of the Yugoslav team in Brussels. (Borba, November 13, 1996) [09] INTER-ETHNIC RELATIONS IN VOJVODINA ARE MORE THAN GOODInter-ethnic relations in Vojvodina, where 28 different ethnic communities coexist, are more than good - said Vojvodina Regional Parliament Speaker Dr. Milutin Stojkovic in an interview for TANJUG news agency."The Autonomous Regioni of Vojvodina is the best illustration of the fact that Serbia and FR Yugoslavia are civil states not only because of their constitutions, but primarily in view of the situation in the field", said Mr. Stojkovic. He also added that members of ethnic minorities receive education in their mother tongue from kindergarten to college, that they have their media, cultural institutions and other forms of expressing their ethnic identity. (TANJUG, November 13, 1996) [10] MEDAL FOR THE SERBIAN VETERANThe Medal of the French Ministry of War Veterans has been received in Paris by Mr. Slobodan Stevic - Secretary General of the Society for the Preservation of the Tradition of Serbian Liberation Wars by 1918.French War Veterans Minister - Mr. Pierre Paschini presented the Medal to Mr. Stevic at the ceremony held in Paris at the occasion of November 11th - World War I Armistice Day. Minister Paschini remarked that the friendship between the French and Serbian peoples was forged in the Great War, and that it thus "remains unbreakable". The ceremony was attended by about a thousand guests, war veterans, high military and public figures, and by the delegation of W.W.I Serbian veterans.
