[01] CLEAR POLICY OF PEACE

President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Zoran Lilic stated yesterday in Minsk while addressing members of the Academy of Sciences of Byelorussia that the Yugoslav policy of peace is clear, distinct and honorable.

He said that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia even when the others were using force for secession, when the external factors were silent in the face of this, was striving for the dialogue.

Federal Republic of Yugoslavia has supported five peace plans of the international community, from the first one by Qutilliero in 1992 up to the Contact Group plan in 1994.

Lilic also underlined that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, our delegation in Dayton headed by President of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic, has given outstanding contribution to peace. Not because Dayton Agreement is an ideal solution, but because it is a realistic compromise which is putting a s to war and destruction and because it is a turning point from war towards peace.

President of the FR of Yugoslavia had talks yesterday with the Prime Minister of Byelorussia Michael Chigir and said that the balance of his previous talks in Minsk is very successful and that he hopes for a fast and comprehensive development of the relations between the two countries. Economic ties and cooperation are now being strengthened with an important place occupied by the joint deals of these companies with the enterprises from our country.

There was discussion about the joint venture of the Yugoslav and Russian partners in the projects and investments in the field of exploitation, processing and placement of oil and oil derivatives, scientific and research work, construction activities for the needs of industrial production and in the field of trade. Federal Government at its yesterday's session chaired by Dr. Radoje Kontic, established a platform for talks between Foreign Minister of the FR of Yugoslavia Milan Milutinovic and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Mate Granic, which will be held this month in Zagreb - within the continuation of the dialogue on normalization of the Yugoslav-Croat relations.

Government has established an expert team for talks with the Croat side in the solution and determination of pending issues in the field of road, railway and air traffic, telecommunications and power. (Politika ekspres, March 8, 1996)

[05] CONDITIONS FOR AID TO YUGOSLAV ECONOMY

During his official visit to Great Britain, Governor of the National Bank of Yugoslavia Dr. Dragoslav Avramovic was a guest yesterday of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with the headquarters in London.

Further to the talks about activities and plans for the economic reform in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, there was also discussion about concrete financial arrangements and especially the conditions under which this bank could assist the recovery of the Yugoslav economy.

[06] LONG-TERM COOPERATION

Economies of Bulgaria and Yugoslavia have decided to establish a long-term and comprehensive cooperation. This is the conclusion of the two-day session of the Mixed Commission of the Bulgarian and Yugoslav Governments for the promotion of economic relations which has adjourned its work in Sofia yesterday.

Peace in former Yugoslavia is a guarantee for a new economic momentum between Bulgaria and the FR of Yugoslavia, which is an example for all the Balkan countries because only integration in the region can take out the south-east of Europe from backwardness and accelerate its links with the developed Europe and the world, stated jointly members of the commission. (Borba, March 8, 1996)

[07] CHAOS IN SARAJEVO

Situation in the remaining Serbian suburbs of Sarajevo is completely chaotic. Mines were placed, many houses in Ilidza are on fire, looting is obvious. The UN High Commissariat for Refugees is giving food and blankets to Serbs who are leaving the city, although it is not official involved in the aid action, stated yesterday for the press in Belgrade Susan Manuel, the UNHCR spokesperson.

In Hadzici, according to her, only a few dozens of Serbs have remained, but in the meantime several hundreds of Croats and Muslims have moved in. In Vogosca according to the UNHCR data, some 700 Serbs have remained, while refugees from Ilidza are yet expected because on March 12, 1996 the police of the Croat-Muslim Federation is to arrive. (Borba, March 8, 1996)

[08] IZETBEGOVIC DECEIVES THE UNITED STATES

Three and a half months after Dayton, the Americans have realized what should have been clear to them from the beginning - that the leader of Bosnian Muslims Alija Izetbegovic is much more concerned with links with Iran and Islam than with the West and that he has not as yet abandoned the idea about creation of the Muslim state in Bosnia.

Quoting western diplomatic and military sources, the newspaper "Washington Post" is writing that in Bosnia at the moment there are between five and seven training centers managed by the Irani instructors, either the ones who have remained there after the war, or those who have arrived in Bosnia later as agents of the Irani secret services. (Vecernje novosti, March 8, 1996)

[09] CONFESSES TO CRIMES

State security authorities of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia have arrested on March 2, 1996 Drazen Erdemovic born in 1971 in the village of Donja Dragunja, county of Tuzla for a grounded suspicion that he has committed war crimes over civilian population from Article 142 para. 1 of the Criminal Code of the FR of Yugoslavia. [10] THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE SERBIAN-RUSSIAN MAGAZINE 'ON THE BORDER OF CENTURIES' WAS PROMOTED

In the Rector's offices of the University of Belgrade, there was a promotion of the first issue of the scientific publication - magazine "On the Border of Centuries", a joint edition of the Moscow State University "Lomonosov" and University of Belgrade. The magazine which will be published quarterly in Serbian and Russian, was presented by the editors-in-chief Vladimir Dobrenjkov and the Academician Mira Markovic.

Emphasizing that this magazine is the result of several years of encounters between scientists and intellectuals of the two Universities and many years of scientific, theoretical and intellectual understanding, Prof. Markovic said that this publication is a viable contribution to the process which should enable affirmation of science as the entity which at the transition into the new century will, on equal terms with the politics, be responsible for the future of mankind, and should even take over the role which until now had the politics.
