The climate of Paxi is mediterranean. The winters are mild with high temperatures even during the coldest months. The summers are cool with a temperature never rising above 40° C, even on the hottest days. The island is very humid due to southeasterly winds and frequent rainfalls. This is a typical of all the Ionians.

On the island's plains, olive trees, mainly, and fruit trees, secondly, are cultivated. The olive crop was developed during the Venetian domination. The island's oil is of a high quality.

The enchanting green-clad island of Paxi lies south of Corfu, opposite Epirus. It has 25 km in area and a population of about 2,300 inhabitants. Its beautiful shores are 46 km long. It belongs to the prefecture of Corfu together with the neighbouring islets of Antipaxi, Mathraki, Othoni, and Erikousa. Its capital is the town of the same name.

The few inhabitants of Paxi are quiet and pleasant people. They resemble their neighbours, the Corfiots very much. They are jolly, hospitable and polite to visitors. They are engaged mainly in agriculture and fishing. Only in recent years have they become employed in the tourist trade.
