Leros is a hilly island with deep green coves, idyllic valleys, indented
shores and the imposing Frankish-Byzantine castle over the Hora or Agia Marina. Lakki, only 3 km from Platanos, is one of the biggest natural ports in the Mediterranean, which can accomodate
large ships and yachts. You can get round the island by hiring a taxi or
a small caique. Xirokambos, Koukouli, Kithoni, Panagies, Blefouti, Gourna,
Lepida and Temenia are some of the places you can visit. The ruins of a
Byzantine castle remain on mount Kasteli. Every year, on the last Sunday
in Lent, there is a Carnival is Leros - complete with chariot parade, fancy
ball and wine festival.
