HALKI OR NIMBORIO
This beautiful settlement is built amphitheatrically around the port. Its almost 300 inhabitants live on stock-breeding and fishing. In the center, there is an imposing clock tower, in front of the town hall's neoclassical building and the church of Agios Nikolaos. The church was constructed in 1861 and it contains beautiful murals and a wood-carved screen.
From Halki one can reach Horio, the former capital of Halki, which has pretty stone houses, a castle that was built by the knights of St John on the ruins of the ancient acropolis, and the Monasteries of Agios Ioannis Alargas, the Holy Trinity, and the Cross of the Wood. On the outskirts of the town, in Pefkia, there are ruins from an ancient temple of Apollo.
