Mirina, the capital of Limnos, is the most touristically active place on the island. Visitors can enjoy a coffee or a refreshment at a quiet coffee shop, or go to a crowded cafe with loud music. The lovely "La Luna cafe" offers full breakfast, coffee, crepes and ice-cream. The island's tavernas and restaurants serve fresh fish and all kinds of seafood, along with ouzo "Kondias" or excellent local wines. Many tavernas offer traditional specialties like the local cheese "salamoura", feta cheese, "Gyftofasoula", a kind of salad with raw string beans, lobster on coals, and octopus in embers. Lunch should be completed with local halvah. "Mitsos's Taverna", "Tassos", "Glaros" and "Platanos" in Mirina offer delicious titbits. The island also has pizza places like "Terrain" which offer Italian delicacies. One should go to Nea Koutali to taste the traditionally cooked mussels, or pay a visit to the pretty beach of Riha Nera to have coffee or eat a full lunch at "Argo". The fish tavernas "Jimmy" and "Grigoris" in Plati serve all kinds of seafood. "Tropicana" in beautiful Atsiki, offers coffee, pizza and lunch. Lastly, one should not fail to go to the excellent "Haravgi" taverna in Kondopouli, where top quality food is served in a pleasant enviromnent.
