Lesvos is a relatively fertile island producing many pure products of good quality, such as local wine, ouzo and cheese-products, especially the famous local oil-cheeses. At the market, one can buy olives and "halvah". The folk art shops sell lovely ceramics, woven fabrics and embroidery with beautiful designs and colours, as well as objects made from carved wood and knitted baskets.
