Dora Bakoyannis visits Boston area Hellenes

By MARIA ANAGNOSTOPOULOS

CAMBRIDGE -- On a wet and snowy evening February 14, dora Bakoyannis, former Greek Minister of Culture, and Yanna Kaloudi, her personal secretary, arrived at Logan Airport and were met by George Chryssis, who accompanied them throughout their stay here. From the moment Dora Bakoyannis arrived in Boston, she gained the respect and admiration of everyone she met.

The Greek Institute and members of the Hellenic Resources Institute planned a vigorous schedule of meetings. There were meetings with faculty memebers at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts, a formal talk on Greece and the Balkans at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard interviews with Orestes Demetriades and Oscar Papanastasiou that were aired, and many small informal meetings with students and friends. At each and every moment, Bakoyannis proved to be a very able spokesperson and true ambassador for Greece.

On February 15, Bakoyannis visited The Greek Institute. Amidst a gathering of friends of the Institute and a student group from the Hellenic Resources Institute, Bakoyannis listened first to a presentation on the status of the Greek language project, the Thesauros of the Greek Language, which is taking place at the Institute, by Dr. Panos Voukydis, and next to a presentation on the projects of the Hellenic Resources Institute, especially the internet project by Demetrios Paneras. Mrs. Bakoyannis was bery favorably impressed with both presentations and engaged in a long discussion with everyone on the importance of these projects for Greece and Greek culture today.
