Hellenic Resources Network (HR-Net)Date: Wed, 04 Oct 1995 19:39:33 EDTThe purpose of this note is to announce the establishment of the Hellenic Resources Network (HR-Net). HR-Net was created by a Hellenic Resources Group at the Hellenic Resources Institute (HRI) to implement the goals of HRI on Internet. HRI was established in Boston and Athens two years ago to promote and facilitate the utilization of Hellenic resources worldwide for the benefit of Greece. The manifold and dynamic goals of HR-Net are realized through several means such as:
A team of volunteers has been working for several months to generate the visible part of HR-Net and the infrastructure that makes it possible. A partial list of its achievements so far includes:
Some of the short term goals of the team are the expansion of ties with more organizations of Hellenic interests, the connection of Greek ministries and Parliament to HR-Net, the improvement and expansion of services provided by HR-Net to the general Internet user, the distribution of Greek fonts for easy and uniform display of Greek texts, the establishment of mirror sites in Greece and elsewhere and the augmentation of reference information compiled in Web pages. The starting point for exploring HR-Net is its first node in Boston, USA. The URL of the Home page is http://www.hri.org.
