Combined Resources for Effective Policy Making

The Hellenic Resources Institute Hosts A Group of Greek Parliamentarians
to Address Security and Cooperation in the Balkans
Boston, November 8-13, 1994: The Hellenic Resources Institute, in
Cambridge in conjunction with the United States Embassy in Athens,
Greece and the U.S.A. are pleased to welcome to a group of
four public policy makers from Greece for a 10-day visit to Boston and
They are as follows: Theodoros Stathis (PASOK) former Deputy
Minister of Defense and former Deputy Minster of Culture, a member of
parliament since 1981; Costas Karamanlis (New Democracy), Member of
the parliament since 1989, and Head of the Policy Planning
Committee; Dimitris Hatzidimitriou (Political Spring), member of
the parliament since 1993; and Anastassios Trikkas (Synaspismos),
formerly a journalist for TA NEA on foreign affairs. Mr. Trikkas is a
member of the Foreign Affairs and International Relations Committees in
The greater Boston area contains a rich concentration of academic,
research and business organizations that focus on international relations,
foreign affairs, negotiation and dispute resolution. Given this, the
purpose of the program is to:
The theme of this year's visit is Security and Cooperation in the
Balkans. During the week, the policy makers will attend lectures,
seminars and panel discussions pertaining to issues related to the
disintegration of Yugoslavia and the peace plan for
Bosnia, the role of Greece in the post-Communist Balkans, the role of
international and regional organizations in Balkan developments
(UN, EU, WEU, CSCE, Council of Europe, the Black Sea Initiative, etc.)
and economic cooperation and diplomacy in the Balkans, among others.
These events will take place at prestigious educational
institutions such as the Kennedy School of Government, The Fletcher School
of Law and Diplomacy, Harvard's Center for European Studies and various
private and public organizations throughout Boston.
The Hellenic Resources Institute is a non-profit organization, located in
Cambridge, MA whose goal is to create a link between Greek
public-policy makers and academicians, professionals and scientists
of the Greek diaspora and the international community.
- Introduce Greek policy makers to approaches, policy tools, and
experts in the field of conflict management and international relations,
- Identify opportunities for effective action and possible roles that
Greece could play in enhancing stability and prosperity in the Balkans.
