State Department: Slovenia - Notice, June 12, 1992
Slovenia - Notice
June 12, 1992
The Department of State advises travelers to Slovenia that,
although the U.S. Government recognized Slovenian independence on
April 7, 1992, the U.S. has not yet opened an embassy in Ljubljana,
the capital of Slovenia. The USIS information center in Ljubjana is
open but does not perform consular functions. U.S. citizens
experiencing difficulties in Slovenia should contact the U.S.
Consulate in Zagreb, Croatia, for assistance. The U.S. Consulate in
Zagreb is located at Brace Kavurica 2, tel. 444-800. It is
currently operating with a reduced staff.
U.S. citizens can safely travel to Slovenia. Travelers should be
aware that the U.S. recently suspended operations of JAT, the
Yugoslavian national airline, in the United States. U.S. citizens
in Slovenia should stay abreast of developments in the region and be
prepared to react if necessary. In particular, travelers should be
aware that renewed fighting in Croatia may make it difficult for
consular officers there to respond immediately to a request for
assistance from a U.S. citizen in Slovenia.
No. 92-122
This replaces the travel advisory for Yugoslavia dated February 21,
1992, to reflect U.S. recognition of Slovenia.
